Andy Gold, House District 57, Democrat

**Introduction**

In 250 words or less, please summarize why voters should pick you.

I've spent the last 10 years growing a profitable international business by forming new collaborations and partnerships. During that time I've learned that any problem can be solved as long as we apply the basic concepts of fairness, finding answers that benefit everyone, and caring more about the solution rather than who gets credit.

As your state representative, I offer my experience to bring government back to the people, to reemphasize the importance of education, to bring sense to our out-of-control health care system, and to work towards a government that is open, responsive, and an asset to our community - not its biggest problem.

**Property Rights**

Do you SUPPORT or OPPOSE the use of eminent domain for purposes of economic development and/or generating tax revenues?

OPPOSE

Will you SPONSOR, SUPPORT, or OPPOSE legislation repealing the state-wide smoking ban (except in government buildings)?

SUPPORT

Will you SPONSOR, SUPPORT, or OPPOSE legislation prohibiting local governments from imposing smoking bans (except in government buildings)?

SUPPORT

**Civil Arms**

In Alaska, citizens can carry concealed weapons for noncriminal purposes without a permit, or they can get a permit recognized by other states. Will you SPONSOR, SUPPORT, or OPPOSE legislation creating a concealed weapons system in Colorado like that in Alaska?

SUPPORT

Will you SPONSOR, SUPPORT, or OPPOSE legislation to prohibit private citizens from ever carrying a concealed weapon?

OPPOSE

Will you SPONSOR, SUPPORT, or OPPOSE legislation to allow citizens to carry a concealed weapon only with the permission and at the discretion of a law enforcement agent?

OPPOSE

Will you SPONSOR, SUPPORT, or OPPOSE legislation to repeal background registration checks for private sales at gun shows?

SUPPORT
private background checks are unenforceable and so a waste of our time

Will you SPONSOR, SUPPORT, or OPPOSE legislation forcing gun owners to lock up their defensive firearms?

SUPPORT
Only for those with young children in the house

Will you SPONSOR, SUPPORT, or OPPOSE legislation adding legal liability specifically to gun owners who do not lock up their defensive firearms?

SUPPORT
people must take responsibility for all their actions, even gun related actions

Will you SPONSOR, SUPPORT, or OPPOSE legislation restricting the number of firearms that a citizen may purchase in a given time period? If you would sponsor or support such legislation, please specify the restrictions you favor.

OPPOSE
Although I would like to find some differentiation between private collectors and those intending for illegal private sale

Will you SPONSOR, SUPPORT, or OPPOSE legislation further restricting the types of firearms that a citizen may purchase? If you would sponsor or support such legislation, please list all particular restrictions you would support.

OPPOSE
I believe current restrictions against automatic and military type weapons are appropriate

**Corporate Welfare**

Article XI, Section 2 of Colorado's Constitution states, "Neither the state, nor any county, [etc.]... shall make any donation or grant to, or in aid of... any corporation or company..." However, according to the Economic Development reports available at http://www.state.co.us/oed/edc/EDC-Reports.cfm, the state has offered corporate welfare to such corporations as Intel, Raytheon, Kodak, and Red Robin Gourmet Burgers.

Will you SPONSOR, SUPPORT, or OPPOSE legislation eliminating all corporate welfare to for-profit corporations?

The state has also offered subsidies to such entities as the Limon Golf Course and the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. Will you SPONSOR, SUPPORT, or OPPOSE legislation eliminating all economic subsidies?

I'm not clear how you define "corporate welfare". I oppose any gifts, encentives, or exclusions given to for-profit companies, however I would support (for example) highway improvements to Walden so that Jackson County could achieve some economic competitiveness

NOTE: **The next several questions are open ended. You may also include an internet link to a document that explains your position on the issue.**

**Abortion**

Please describe which additional restrictions, if any, should be placed on abortion.

None - abortion is the choice of the woman, not government

**Education**

Do you support more state spending on education?

SUPPORT STRONGLY

Vouchers?

OPPOSE STRONGLY

What do you think is the proper role of government in education?

to promote personal, local, and global economic competitveness by providing the best public education system possible

**Medicine**

What do you think is the proper role of state government in medicine?

I support a fixed cost statewide insurance pool as a choice for every resident of Colorado

Should state policies be different than they are now? If so, how?

YES - our current system has failed and must be fixed

Do you support a "single payer" health system and/or government-backed "universal" care?

Eventually, but for now a statewide pool is a good first step
