Tyranny Response Team Protests Owens in Longmont
Over 400 civil arms activists braved the snow and freezing weather March 31, 2000 to protest Governor Bill Owens' gun restriction proposals. Longmont police provided crowd and traffic control; a few officers viewed the crowd from atop a nearby building. Interaction between the police and members of the crowd was mostly amicable, though a few TRT members expressed disapproval of the police taking to the rooftops and using high-tech surveillance equipment. Owens was in Longmont for a Republican fundraiser. Several who attended the formal function took literature from TRT members. Boulder's Daily Camera reported the event at http://www.bouldernews.com/news/local/01aowen.html. Hector Gutierrez covered the event for the Rocky Mountain News in an article which was not made available at the paper's web page. Several other media outlets sent reporters to the rally. Attendance greatly surpassed the estimates of some considering the harsh weather. Photos of the event are provided below. The unusual lighting in some photos is the result of snowfall combined with the use of a flash.
